Description |
Two men and a dog in front of the shop window of University Laundry, Lower Pyne, 1904. The two men are identified on the verso as "Ed R. Branch and Neddie." The right side of the shop window advertises three businesses: "Thornton Conover, Real Estate - Insurance," "Coal, Notary Public," and "Wm. R. Matthews, Contractor and Builder." Moses Taylor Pyne built Upper and Lower Pyne for Princeton University in 1896. Lower Pyne, shown here, is on the northeast corner of Nassau and Witherspoon Streets. Raleigh C. Gildersleeve designed both buildings in a Gothic Revival or Tudor style. Initially, the buildings housed shops at the street level and undergraduate dormitories upstairs; the dormitories were converted to offices in the 1950s. |
