Description |
View of the Princeton University campus, including Nassau Green and Maclean House, 79 Nassau Street. Maclean House was built in 1756 by Robert Smith as a residence for presidents of the College of New Jersey (Princeton University). It was used as the President's House until the University acquired Prospect in 1878. Ten presidents lived in the house: Aaron Burr, Sr.; Jonathan Edwards; Samuel Davies; Samuel Finley; John Witherspoon; Samuel S. Smith; Ashbel Green; James Carnahan; John Maclean, Jr.; and James McCosh. The building then housed the first deans of the faculty and was known as the Dean's House. Since 1968, the building has housed the Alumni Council and is now known as Maclean House. |
