The Macdonald family with a dog, behind 160 Mercer Street. Several family members are identified on the verso, including: Mr. James Macdonald and his wife, the couple seated in front; their son William, center rear row wearing a derby hat; their son Harry, second from the right in the rear row; their son James, third from the left in the rear row; their daughter Lizzie, second from the left in the rear row; and their daughter Margaret, whose location is not clear from the notes on the verso. |

In pencil on back of photo: James Macdonald ([?]) [?] on the site where [cut off at top of photo] Springdale Club now stands - He owned about 7 acres of land - now a part of the Springdale Golf Course. He was gardener for Ms. Josephine Thomson Swann - after selling to the Springfield Gold Course. He purchased [?] Mercer Street when Mr. Schirmer now resides and became the florist and gardener for George A. [?]. The family group was taken in the rear of 160 Mercer Street. Mr + Mrs Macdonald had daughters (1) Margaret (2) Lizzie. Margaret [cut off at edge] dead and Lizzie is married + resides in Trenton. The sons are: (1) William - retired naval officer residing in Phila. now deceased [cut off at edge] James - a gardener for Randolph [?] and (3) Harry - a [?] for Princeton University Press. William standing near the center rear with a Derby on. (2) harry is second from right end (3) James standing 3rd from left rear row. Lizzie is second from left rear row. Margaret [text crossed out] the end one left rear row. M. James Macdonald and wife are the elderly ones seated in front. The rest are [cut off at edge] and grandchildren.
